True Blue Blazing: Code of Conduct

True Blue Blazing is a community-led, volunteer-run conference. We expect to be able to enjoy ourselves and learn in a safe and professional environment.

What we expect from everyone

Be welcoming and inclusive. Our community spans all levels of experience, backgrounds and roles. Treat everyone with respect, whether they’re a first-time attendee or a fifteen-year veteran.
Be honest, not unkind. Frank discussion of what works and what doesn’t is the point of this event. Critique products, platforms and ideas: never people.
Respect boundaries. Ask before photographing or recording individuals. Accept “no” the first time, whether it’s to a conversation, a demo or a drink.
Look after each other. If you see something that doesn’t seem right, speak up or find a volunteer.

Harassment policy

True Blue Blazing is a harassment-free event. Harassment includes, but is not limited to: offensive comments or imagery related to gender, gender identity, sexuality, disability, physical appearance, race, religion or age; intimidation, stalking or following; sustained disruption of sessions; unwelcome physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. This applies to all event spaces, including the venue, official social functions and online channels (event hashtags, Slack/Chatter groups and social media), for the duration of the event.

If you’re asked to stop a behaviour, stop immediately.

Reporting a problem

If you experience or witness harassment, or have any other concern about safety or conduct:

Find any volunteer or organiser: identifiable by purple shirts with the True Blue Blazing logo, or come to the registration desk at any time.
Contact us directly: on 0429 027 580.

Reports are handled confidentially. Two committee members will hear your report and take appropriate action. We will never require you to confront the person involved. If you need it, we can help with contacting venue security or Victoria Police, providing an escort, or otherwise helping you feel safe for the rest of the event. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 000.

Consequences

The organising committee may take any action we deem appropriate, including a warning, removal from a session, expulsion from the event without refund, exclusion from future events, and reporting to venue security or police. Our decisions are final on the day.
